About My name is Crista. I enjoy finding excuses to go outside and take short walks, especially on mild summer days. However, my tolerance for extreme weather has decreased since I sustained a C5/6 traumatic spinal cord injury nearly 40 years ago while surfing with fellow LA County lifeguards. Six years after my injury, I moved to New Jersey with my soon-to-be husband. By 1995, I had my first child while in graduate school for Neuroscience. Four years later, our second child arrived, and my life became a whirlwind of research, career, and family. As our children grew, we stayed active together, engaging in sports like Alpine skiing with the amazing volunteers at Camelback Mountain and scuba diving as a family. In 2009, we relocated to Mansfield Center, CT—a much colder place with challenging terrain and limited options for exercise, which, unfortunately, contributed to a more sedentary lifestyle over time. This program marks a new chapter for me as I aim to become more active, build strength, and improve my stamina. With my kids now young adults, it's the perfect time to overcome complacency and focus on better health, including eating well. Wish me luck! I’m excited to hear about how others are navigating this journey and to celebrate your successes.

Welcome to NCPAD's 14-Week Program to a Healthier You!

What is the program?

  • Description: A free, personalized, web-based physical activity and nutrition program
  • Target Audience: People with mobility limitations, chronic health conditions and physical disabilities
  • Goal: To help you get moving and making healthy nutrition choices
  • Duration: 14 weeks

How does it work?

  • You register for the program and tell us a little about yourself.
  • We take the information you gave us and, to the best of our abilities, provide you with personalized resources and exercises that meet your individual needs over the course of 14 weeks.
  • Because there is new material each week that builds on the previous weeks, the program works best if you visit at least once a week.
