About My name is Emily and this year marks 30 years since becoming a paraplegic (SCI). I was injured at 16 years old in a car accident and became a full time wheel chair user. I was much more physically active (going for "walks" aka pushing my chair for exercise, hand cycling, gym routine, etc) in my 20s. I have two children, born in 2010 and 2014, and since having them, I lost all focus on myself and allocating time for physical fitness. I spend all of my time on my job, caring for my kids and their needs, and caring for our home. I've gained some weight, lost strength and endurance for my upper body, and range of motion in my lower extremities. But through all this, I've always kept interest in things of health and nutrition. I love to cook and bake in a healthy way! I'm looking forward to this program as a way to be inspired to get back into a fitness routine, to have accountability, and to learn new things that I may not have otherwise thought of when it comes to health and exercise! It will be fun connecting with other individuals who are experiencing similar barriers as I am!

Welcome to NCPAD's 14-Week Program to a Healthier You!

What is the program?

  • Description: A free, personalized, web-based physical activity and nutrition program
  • Target Audience: People with mobility limitations, chronic health conditions and physical disabilities
  • Goal: To help you get moving and making healthy nutrition choices
  • Duration: 14 weeks

How does it work?

  • You register for the program and tell us a little about yourself.
  • We take the information you gave us and, to the best of our abilities, provide you with personalized resources and exercises that meet your individual needs over the course of 14 weeks.
  • Because there is new material each week that builds on the previous weeks, the program works best if you visit at least once a week.
